Ring in the new year with rest

Teaching my final yoga class of 2025 last week was bittersweet, as I’d expected it would be. The yin practice at Østerbro Hot Yoga was slow and deep, with a candlelit yoga nidra and savasana. My favourite way to end a class and very fitting for the season.

December calls for cosiness (the famous Danish hygge!) and soft lights and finding comfort. More than ever this time of year, I believe in slowing down and stepping out of the frantic pace of life with all its stressors and worries and demands. And, if you’re in the Copenhagen area, I’m offering two special ways to do that in January 2026.

Ease into the New Year
Saturday, January 3

An amazing two and a half hours at Hot Yoga Østerbro (rest assured, the practice will be cosy and warm, not hot and sweaty) for meditative yin yoga poses and well-propped restorative yoga postures. This gentle practice is relaxing way to start the New Year, helping you find ease and release stress.

All the details and registration on the Hot Yoga Østerbro website.

Restorative Yoga Winter Series
Starts Sunday, January 11

Four 90-minute sessions at 108 Yoga in Gentofte, a small, super hyggeligt studio just north of Copenhagen. Every third Sunday, restorative yoga will help recalibrate your body’s systems, alleviate physical tension, and allow your mind to rest.

Join for all four sessions (or just one or two) to benefit from long-held, well-propped postures and find deep relaxation.

Why Practice Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga teacher and teacher trainer Lizzie Lasater recently characterised restorative yoga classes as:

a support group for those of us who carry beliefs like:

• I haven’t done enough.
• Resting means I’m lazy.
• If I stop, I’ll never start again.
• Everyone else’s needs are more important than mine.
• Productivity is paramount.
• Or, my personal favorite: I don’t have time to rest.

A good restorative yoga practice give you time for effortlessness. A space that’s just to take care of yourself.

Winter in the northern hemisphere is the ideal time to find ease, to hibernate. The darkness, the cold, the weather all beckon to us to slow down. And restorative yoga is the perfect way to invest in rest.
